First Time Buyer... HELP!

7 years 10 months ago #483175 by JakeHare
I've always loved photography (because of my father) but I've never actually taken the plunge and bought myself a DSLR. Now my best friend is getting big into it as well and I'm tired of just borrowing theirs when I go on shoots with them.

I'm ready to take the plunge!

That's where I need your help. What's the best beginner rig (cost aside) that I can use to really dive in and grow. I like Portrait/Landscape photography the most.

Let me know!

Also, I took this shot at Whitaker Point with a buddy of mine's Cannon Rebel. Not the best, but definitely something I want to master in the future.

The Nikon D3300 is a great entry level camera that is on a lot of people's lists of best buys. It captures excellent detail and has a ton of pixels. It's not difficult to learn how to use either (but I'm a Nikon fan so I'm a little biased). Anyway, here's an in depth review if you fancy:

Thanks for that Glenn!

It looks pretty sweet. Once I have a working budget to snag one, I might just pull the trigger on it.

Did you own one when you first started? What's your daily?

That looks like a beautiful location.  You didn't what your budget is?  That will make a world of difference where you start.

I have a Canon Rebel T6i and have enjoyed learning the ins and outs of photography with it. It's certainly not the best camera on earth, but I'm pleased with the purchase.

That shot looks like it was taken with a telephoto?  If so, full frame would be tops for that.  But the best FF tele lenses are very spendy.  Links for various opinions on camera choices -

I started out with a Canon T2i. It was nothing special, but I was able to learn a lot with it. I've graduated to a Pentax KS2 since then. Would recommend either!
