For those of you who use a filter

What is considered a "high end filter"?  Is this solely based on price?  I would like to think that there are some filters that are considered to be great filters, that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Or are "high end filters" always reserved for those with a certain price tag?

Yes, high end are usually determined by price. That said, you can find mid priced filters that meet or exceed the specs of some "high end" models

Can you suggest some mid priced ones for me to take a look at?  I would greatly appreciate your help.  I'm after some filters to replace what I have.  All mine are cheapo's.

Look at the "Marumi" line of filters. Be careful when shopping as many filter makers will sell several "tiers" of product. A basic line, a mid priced line & a top tier line.

Thanks for the tip. I've been looking for some better filters myself.

Yes price is big consideration for high end filters.  Such as :

Lee

Singh Ray

You get what you pay for, just like with lenses!

If you are average, you'll end up with a few differently priced filters thinking the "lesser" priced units will be good enough. You'll finally just buy top quality at some point....

Why so serious?

I like my Hoya filters as well. I would love to have a bunch of Singh-Ray filers, but the way I am with my gear means they would not go out with me most of the time. If money was no object then yeah I would not care if they got destroyed.
