What camera are professional food photographers using?

5 years 11 months ago #579321 by Stacy Kaufman
I'm looking to make some changes for my photography this year.  Focusing down.  I really love to cook and feel I have a good eye for yummy food shots.  Are the pro food photographers using an particular gear?

Let me know anything that you can.  Thank in advance!

No, because the camera doesn't matter. It never matters.

What matters is your vision, styling, lighting, and set. IMO you want a long lens to avoid distortion, but that can be handled in post to some degree. You want a tripod, too. Food doesn't run away, so you can use long shutter speeds and low ISO. Good food styling skills, and good post skills.

Yes indeed.  Photography isn't about cameras.  It is about making images.  All cameras can be tools for image making.

I have family that does food photography for Kroger and all kinds of large companies.

They're always using the latest 5d series.

Their lighting setup is 90 percent of it though.

I think  Canon 5DS R  is an excellent option when the budget isn’t at rock bottom. With 50 megapixels and a full frame sensor, the camera gets plenty of detail for food photography. If you prefer Nikon, take a look at the  D610  or  D750 .

For food shootings, my go to weaponry are the Nikon 85PC and the
105 macro.

From web to HQ magazine centrefolds, depending on the final use,
I will pick the right body.

Gary and effron are right with the vision — either yours or the AD's.
