Best focal length for real estate interiors?

4 years 6 months ago #661538 by Chase Audate
I should clarify for APS-C camera (Nikon D7500).  I'm going to be helping out a friend in a few weeks with his real estate photography.  I'm hoping this might lead to me getting some work from him as a helper.  I could ask him, however I want to try to learn everything I can in the next few weeks so I start with him knowing something.  And for what it's worth, establishing a hint that I could be useful to his work.

So, keeping that in mind what is the best focal length for shooting interiors of homes?

I don't use crop sensors and I use a Nikkor 24mm PC
and prefer to stitch images.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

For that Nikon of yours, I would recommend something wide like the Sigma 10-20mm.

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400

The problem with a crop sensor body is that you have a limited view angle when compared to a full frame. If you compensate with a wider lens (shorter focal length) you can introduce distortion that can't be mitigated in post.

You would be best off, IMNSHO, using a 24mm lens and a tripod, and stitching in post. A bit more work, but your results might be more suitable.

You should go practice and figure out if this will work for you.

What you should do is get out there, and rent a couple of these mentioned lenses and try them out and see which works best for you.

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400
