Using polarized lens with lens hood on camera?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just find it so awkward to put and use a polarized filter when the lens hood is on my camera.  It's very hard to get my fingers in there to spin it around.

I was told you always need to use a lens hood.  So what do you do when you are using polarized filter?

One always should use the lens hood…
unless, once on the filter, it introduces some vignetting.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

I never use a hood when using a filter, a especially circular polarizer.  You can never twist it.  Also with my Polar Pro ND filters, they catch on the inside of the hood and can be a pain to get off.

Meh.

Yes, it's awkward. Remove the hood while installing the filter, then put it back on if you like. Using a CPL with a hood is a pain. So, I never do.

A CPL only works when you're (mostly) at a 90 degree angle to the sun (i.e. it's directly to your left or right). In which case, the hood is useless because the sunlight has no direct path into the lens. So, as is so often the case, the use of a hood depends.

Many claim that the hood protects the lens. I've yet to bang my lens against anything, much less something that could damage it. While accidents happen, you can learn to be diligent, too. Right? Someday I may be proven wrong, but I understand the risk.

N.B. hoods can also help keep rain off the lens, if you're in inclement weather. Also, not a stupid question.

Net: do what you need to do.

Gary as usually you are on the dot.  Spot on.  Bottom line, use the hood when  you can.    With a CP, if you find it a PITA, like many of us do when using a hood, don't use the hood.  

I personally don't for any filters.  Oh, that's because I'm lazy, and I have HiTech filters that prevent me from using a hood!

Pretty much when I use any filters, my lens hood remains off.  It's just to much to try to adjust the filter when the lens hood is on.
