The vast majority of the planet that was affected in some way by the British Empire uses the words of the English and spells their words the same way. The land of the Boston Tea Party has created their own dictionary and spelling.
While we 'English-language' users read and see the American-ation via Hollywood and now the internet, we are often saddened to find English-language books created elsewhere but printed in the USA have had their text rewritten into American as seemingly, Americans are unable to understand that English language/s from other parts of the planet do not use American terms. For example - we in Australia use nappies for the baby, never diapers, and yet Aussie books have diapers [or any of 100 equivalents] inserted into the text simply for American readers. Overall it's rather sad, because otherwise you seem to be a highly intelligent mob
