beginner photography forum

I've always wanted to learn more about photography and think it would be really fun to have as a personal hobby. I have room in my schedule this semester for a fun class and decided to sign up for intro to digital photography at the art school. Since I'm just a beginner, I don't need a super high-end DSLR, just something decent to start me out. Do you guys know a good place to start looking online and about how much it would cost? What are some older models to look for online? What brand do you prefer?I don't want to overspend because I'm going to be buying a new laptop soon, which is already one big purchase. Right now I have a Nikon L110, which is decent enough for a point and shoot, but the light settings aren't very good and the pictures I take at night often turn out blurry. I've been itching for something better for a while now. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

+1 on "What's your budget?"

Have you settled on a system, or are you considering this temporary, and you'll decide later what the future holds?

Does the class synopsis made any recommendations?

G'day all

I think the post above is in error ... it seems to have no relevance to the topic

To better respond re: your original post ~
Your Nikon L110 is a simple, pretty much fully automatic camera aimed at those who do not want much more than happy snaps. It has no usable manual controls, limited shutter speeds and no eyepiece for serious viewing of the subject

However ther are better cameras of a similar construction, as well as dSLRs where you can have fun buying then changing lenses. However, as others ^^ have asked - what's your budget?

For $us450 you can get the really excellent Panasonic FZ-300 bridge camera as a dramatic step up from your L110 but of a similar size and shape, or for double this you can get any of the many dSLR "kit" offerings of a base-model camera plus 2 lenses. The on-line chain-stores will be full of adverts for canon-nikon-pentax-sony + others offerings

Any of the above will more than satisfy your stated requirements

disclaimer- I use Panasonic FZ cameras and love 'em to bits
Hope this helps

It wasn't a mistake. It was a spammer.
