Canon Rebel XT owner looking to upgrade.

1 year 3 weeks ago #706342 by jonw440
I have a Canon Rebel XT/D350 with the standard EF-S 18-55 lens and a EF 75-300mm Lens.
Photography is just another hobby of mine(I have many) the latest is watches. I enjoy photographing watches and woudl like to step up the hardware.
Should I keep the camera(Rebel XT) and upgrade to a good lens,  or get a new Canon body(or kit with lens) and use the original lenses?
Another option is jumping ship to Nikon and starting over. Nikon D3500 or 4500
My budget is $800.00

I would imagine at your price point staying with canon and purchasing a new body while keeping your lenses might be your best bet--though make sure the lens mounts are the same on your new body.  if you wanted to sell your current body you may be able to up your budget some as well.  If you are familiar with Canon it may be worth staying with Canon (you know the menus/features, have lenses already, etc)  unless you have a specific reason to switch makers/systems.  I shoot Fuji so I am not aware of canon/nikon lenses and gear.  Just my two cents.

I ended up ordering a Canon T8i with the kit lens. I like the idea of the touch screen.

Cool, I am new to the whole photographic thing but always like Cannon, did you come in on your budget?
Guessing maybe the T8i is not a beginner's camera?

Anyway, congrats on the new camera, can`t wait to see some shots.

Oh, Handshake, and good to meet you.

So after so many years of doing this or that and life itself getting in my way, I am now at the point where just slowing down and doing things I have put off I have concluded that its time to become creative and do what I want.
Thanks for giving me a place to get started. :-)
