How do I separate two lens filters that are stuck together?

3 years 2 months ago #710231 by Tim Dulaney
Over the weekend I made a bone headed mistake.  I screwed two polarized filters together to see what they would do, and now I can't get them unstuck from one another??

How can I get these undone from one another without destroying my filters?

Place them in the freezer  for 30 minutes or so, then tap on counter and twist

Toss filters into freezer than use rubber gloves to break free.

The temperature differential approach is very risky should the rings
be of different metals having other contraction coefficients and the
tapping in these conditions will prove deadly for the glass.

Warming them up slowly is less risky for the glass but what happens
when the wrong ring is in the inside?

You may be able to get it using rubber gloves if you can get a good enough grip, but those filter wrenches seem like the best way to go, without damaging the filters.
