Interesting idea. I think the whole flowere should be framed, and it should all be in focus, to bring it well forward of the blurred background.

As good as this shot is I want to see the colors as well. A photograph already takes away the fragrance of the flower. By removing the color the fragrance, texture and life of the flower seems to be further removed. Bokeh is OK but could be better - softer. I think I'm saying the same thing as John on this...

In what way do the "other" sites get old? I find that you tend to receive from this place what you put into it. I'm glad to see you posting and asking provocative questions like this. Don't be too hasty in deciding as it is a long weekend and the flow of posts will tend to slow down a bit over the next few days.

Yes, I don't mind the flower being on the right, and I also think the B&W treatment is fine for this shot - there is a lot of contrast there. But, I think the whole of the flower really needed to be in focus for the effect to work. Not easy, although with some focus stacking you could get there. The blurring of the distant petals spoils it a bit.

Needs to be sharper and in my opinion, when there is just one bloom, you usually need the see the whole bloom. With multiple blooms, it's O.K. to crop into the bloom. The B&W works for me and has nice contrast.
