A few long exposure beach photos using B+W 10 stop filter processed B&W with Color Efex Pro 4

These shots were taking this past weekend in Monterey, CA.

Taken with D700 w/ 24mm with timer, mounted on 3 Legged Thing "Brian" Tripod. Post processing was quickly done with Nik Software's Viveza 2 and Color Efex Pro 4 in Photoshop CS5. I have to say, the new Color Efex Pro 4 has some killer filters and functionality that makes doing this sort of processing a breeze. Yet you have so much control and flexibility.

ISO 100 | 24mm | f/16 | 40 sec.

ISO 100 | 24mm | f/16 | 47 sec.

ISO 100 | 24mm | f/16 | 37 sec.

Nice shots Alex, I would say #1 is my favorite. I have a question about B&W processing in Color Efex Pro 4. Is this the same as Silver Efex Nik also sells? I would be curious what is different in the B&W processing between both of these.

Thanks

Walter

Lovely photos Alex. I would be interested in this answer also.

BTW have you tried any other B&W programs? I see your remarks about your fondness of B&W photography on FB. Just curious if this is your preferred way to process B&W images.

I sent you a PM, please get back with me on that.

Thanks!

Hi Walter -

The black & white filter in Color Efex Pro 4 is a basic conversion with some control but overall limited.

Silver Efex Pro 2 is really the acknowledged leading powerhouse black and white tool with wide-ranging control over every facet of the conversion process. Please feel free to download free trials of both products and compare them on your own images .

Hope that helps. Kevin (from Nik)

I need to experiment more with black and white post processing myself. Thanks for sharing, and btw the last one is my favorite.

Great shots alex. How does it compare to the lee big stopper?

:woohoo: Nice shots... I just spent the past few days processing some greyscale shots. I like editing in B/W. I'm learning that in some ways it is easier and faster than color.

I like number two the best. :judge:  :woohoo:
