i dont really do alot of b/w shots but i thought this was a nice shot as b/w.

It looks more gray-ish than B&W and seems soft, but that may be the image size and how it shows up on a message board. I don't know that the vignetting adds to the image, but it may just be personal preference if you like that look or not.

I've done way more B&W film than digital, but I learned doing darkroom work to try to have a 'black-black' and a 'white-white' somewhere in the image, not usually in reflections or highlights (this is easier to show than explain). There are exceptions of course depending on the image. I like the idea of using a vantage point looking up from below, of the tree on a sloping hill.

In digital it's easy to make a Levels Adjustment layer. Then you can set the white point and black point manually in PS.

When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

I agree. The clear sky makes the perfect backdrop for the tree, giving it nice contrast!
