Some side :beerbang: fill light may help. The object is a piece of art but it seems flat with no depth..

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I think it's a nicely balanced composition that fills the frame well and makes nice use of the lines in the subject.

You could think about the lighting as that could be done differently, but looking more closely I notice that there seems to be a light source to the left. I think too that maybe the fingers are just slighty more sharply in focus than the smaller figures, but I can't tell for sure.

I don't know if you shot this in B&W or converted it from color. I've done a good bit of B&W film photography and learned how to do darkroom work; I learned to look for a 'black' black and a 'white' white somewhere in the photo (not usually in highlights or reflections). That was usually the starting point and then I'd adjust from there. When I've done some digital B&W I find the conversion tends to make portions of the picture too dark, so I'm finding that instead if I remove color that seems to give me much better gray tones.

When I shoot B&W I try to look for some contrast of light and dark in the scene I'm photographing as that seems to give me better B&W photos. There seems to be some nice contrast in this picture, it just seems like it's a bit too dark maybe or needs some more adjustment.

This shot was taken in a dark room featuring my flash as the only light source on the object's left side.

I agree with you. And I think that happened because I reduced the noise in Lightroom.

I shot this in color and desaturated in Photoshop. I think it's better than the on camera's B&W conversion.

I agree. The contrast was also increased in Photoshop because I thought it was better looking.
I missed a background light to give the object more shape, but I didn't have a good one so I left it totally dark.

I think in overall it's a pleasing shot, but could be better.

Thank you for your comments!
I appreciate that! :)

I think it's a great shit as is. I'm fond of grainy black and white, but that's because it's my style... Not many people like the grain as much as I do. Your shot is fantastic and soft yet detailed. Great job!

I would prob recommend not using the saturation tool but actually try lightrooms black and white converter and or some of its preset filters. And would recommend backing it up just a tad so there is more border to the photo just a lil not to much. An in agreement withthe others the lighting either give it more or give it less and play kinda a shadow game on it I like the subject its very cool thought. Keep it up also if you have a film camera try shooting the black and white with black and white film recommend kodak 400tx and then pull it by setting the film speed setting to 500 it gives you 2 more shades of grey.
