Cross of St Mary's Abbey-Howth Ireland

4 years 10 months ago #645865 by MDSPhotography
Greetings to all,

The following was taken, at St Mary's Abbey,  during a return trip to Dublin this past February. Loved the weather worn features of the cross. I have no idea as to its age but can only imagine it's time that is has stood against the blustery Irish weather.

Cheers,
Mark

The jpg compression halo take everything of this shot. :(

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Thanks to each for your input. Yeah, I hate the halo issue as well.

Contrast is also good in this shot. Very nice!

Oh, the halo is indeed very disturbing. But good subject.

Yes I hate the halo as well. Thoughts or suggestions on what I can do to process it out?

Try reduce the highlights and the sharpness.

The image is oversharpened. I'd suggest starting over, and avoid any use of sharpening and/or clarity until you have everything else where you want it.

Then I'd use local sharpening on the wood (not the edges) and perhaps some D&B on the rocks (no sharpening).

Without seeing your starting point, and knowing your steps, that's about the best I can offer.

Looks like most agree there was too much processing. It's so easy to do and I'm as guilty as they come. For me the challenge is to get as many shades of gray as possible and retain the luminance which comes like magic. Ever once in a while when least expected.
The sharpening button is usually a killer.

Same experience. The sharpness, if not used properly can ruin a good shot.
