Fact or Rumor?

I'm a Nikon guy, and never have owned a Canon. I've been told by a number of people that Canon lenses are better for low light photography. Is this true or just rumor?

Canon does make some really good stuff, my wife's brother is a professional photographer and he was telling me that Canon in his OPINION was better than Nikon in terms of low light stuff and portrait photography. I'm sure much of this is all based on what you like as a photographer, either way Nikon or Canon both take some great photos!

I'm getting such mixed reviews, I'm thinking about moving to Canon.

Which Canon or Nikon. Which lens?

Canon lenses are better for low light photography. Is this true or just rumor?

I use a Canon, & IMO, this statement is BS. Both cameras are better than the users who told you that.
Get a good, fast lens for your Nikon & learn how to get the most out of it, & you'll be better off than thinking that switching makes will solve your low light problems.

Fair answer that I would have to agree with you. How long have you been shooting?

I have been using Canon gear since the 20D came out and have progressed right on up there. I would say the statement is BS. Nikon makes some really nice equipment, but their lenses are not cheap, as if Canon are :) A low light shot is going to depend on the lens, camera and the person pressing the shutter. Nikon's newest cameras and lenses will produce just as good as the Canon's. It takes practice to get ones gear to produce it's best output, wheter it is Nikon or Canon. You
would not go wrong with either make.

Another case of brand snobbery. I've seen great low light shots from both brands.

You were probably told this because Canon offers an AF 50mm f1.2L and the f1.0L(discontinued) lens while Nikon widest AF 50mm is at f1.4. Is this significant enough to make a valid argument? Nah. Both brands have camera sensors that can perform at unbelievably high ISO's with usable results.

You've seen this one right? Shot with a nikon 105mm f2.5 lens in a dim tent with just one natural light source.

Can't argue with those results right? ;)

I agree with all the posters, both cameras do shoot low light situations just fine.
