Cropped vs Full Frame

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and have a chance at getting a 5D classic as my budget at best if a new Rebel. I have an Original Rebel (300D) and a 20D which doesn't read EF-s lens after having to get the 50 1.8 unstuck. The 5D in question could have under 10k shutter count, which was the big selling point along with having a grip.
My question is; from how I've understood the whole cropped to full frame is... The Full Frame is the closest to shooting in 35mm film? Not only because of sensor size to lens but image quality. Is this true?

-Katy

P.S. I don't see much of a point upgrading to a new Rebel model because my 300D works just fine. If I was to stay cropped I would think about a 70D but I've wanted to go FF for a while now.

IQ for a FF is better than crop only when the sensor generation is about the same.  I would not expect an old 5D classic to keep up with the new 70D.  However, there are plenty of reviews for both cameras online.  Find high rez sample images and make your own comparisons.

I would not mind replacing my 50D with FF, but I would want at least a 6D to go there.

Have you tried looking at used retailers like KEH or Adorama?

What you shoot can have a bearing on it as well...

I am a Nikon user and another consideration may be the lens you already have.

Get the 5d Classic. I actually like that camera better than the 5d mark II and 5d mark III.  That sensor was incredible, especially for black and white. You didn't have the banding you get now when you push shadows.
