Time for an upgrade?

So I was out yesterday evening with the wife and she was snapping some pic's of the kid while the sun was setting and it got to the point where we needed the flash to fire and OMG the recharge time is insanely slow with Eneloop pros in it. Anyways I started messing with it a bit and noticed how slow everything is, so basically now I'm in the market for a compact point and shoot with a little more power behind it. I was wondering if anyone here has any of the powershot G series and if so do you like it? I'm looking at the G7 X Mark II as a possible replacement to the SX160 we have now.  Any advice or insight is much appreciated.

I have the G11, and I've used it for four or five years. It is excellent in all respects except low light situations, where the noise produced AT ISO>400 requires extensive processing. The zoom range is not huge, but the lens is very sharp, the color palette is excellent. I often use it with an external flash, with very good results. It also has the advantage of being cheap...
I can also highly recommend the SonyRX10, which approaches DSLR Quality.

Get yourself a 5d mark III with a 24-105 and be done with it.

True, and you can find some good deals on used ones.  Oh wait, you said Mark III.  Well you might find some good deals on this.  I would look at the Mark II or as pointed out the SonyRX10 is a very good option.

I liked the 5d mark I over the Mark II.  Better sensor.  No banding when you pushed the Shadows.  The AF kind of sucked on the 5d mark II.  It's good for video though.
