Canon 7D is horrible at long exposures

I want to see if I'm missing something here.  Anyone here try long exposures with their Canon 7D in excess of 30 seconds?  I've noticed, once around 30 seconds and watch out if you are anywhere near 2 minutes +, you get so much noise and hot pixels with this camera.

Have you experienced this, work arounds?  Or am I just out side the boundaries with this camera?  I've had this camera for some time, and it's getting close for a replacement.   I've heard good about the 6D.  Just seeing what others thought about this.

What are your settings?

I haven't had a 7D for a couple years. But I definitely remember more noise as the ISO increased. I'm not sure I ever tried any exposures that long to speak to the impact on IQ.

What are the rest of your settings? Are you at a low ISO for exposures that long?

I''m using a EOS 60D, as far as I know it has the same sensor as the 7D.

Are you sure you're not on "Auto ISO"? I've been up to 7 minutes(!) (bulb mode) with my 60D - and there was not noticeable noise. As far as I remember ISO was at 200. And don't forget to switch off VC! ;)
