Autofocus Sports

I recently started shooting high school basketball games. My experience with shooting sports is limited.  My problem is getting sharp focus and I'm looking for help.

I'm running a 5 or 6 year old Canon 7D with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens. I'm shooting in Manual at f/2.8, 1/1000, with auto-ISO ranging from 2000 to 3200 due to changing lighting conditions in the gym.  AI Servo, Hi-speed continuous.

I've tried Zone AF, Single point AF, and AF point expansion. I currently use AF priority/Tracking priority in the Autofocus/Drive custom settings. I've tried the other options, but see no perceptual difference. Servo tracking sensitivity is at the default Zero. I have Continuous AF track priority set.

I tested my lens for a microfocus adjustment, but found no issue with it.  I borrowed a known good lens from a professional and got the same kind of results, so I ruled out the lens as a problem.

I've gone through all the Scott Kelby videos on sports photography to improve my own technique.  I generally do well in other, less active forms of photography, but I wonder if the higher ISO with the cropped sensor is causing me fits.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
