Help needed: Sigma 150-600 lens compatibility with Canon 5d Mark I

5 years 2 weeks ago #638655 by Kaupo-Liiv
Hi!
I own old Canon 5D Mark I camera. Old camera and have used old basic lenses with that, but would like to start upgrading the lenses and finally camera as well. Probably would like to get used Mark III (budgetwise) when I get suitable offer wrom my own town. All offers I have received have been with very high shutter count and for worn out cameras and would like to wait a bit, but...

...it's spring and would like to go and start shooting wildlife. For that I have thought about buing Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens.

Mark I has not listed among cameras it fits. I'm wondering if it's about lens electronics and software? Is my Mark I old? Can or can't I use it (lens) with my old Mark I or do I have to get Mark III first?

You'll be fine, they likely don't show it because it's an older camera.

I'm going to disagree here.

If they don't claim support for the body, either contact the company and ask about it, or rent one and try it out. Assuming it will work seems foolhardy to me.

I could be wrong.

And you might also want to try the rental houses as well if you can’t find a quick answer from Sigma or Canon.

I was looking at the 60-600mm made from Sigma for photographing birds.  Well as soon as I got a little better I would like to buy this lens.
