Canon 15-35mm vs Canon 16-35mm

4 years 5 months ago #665850 by Olivia
I have the 16-35mm f/4 and have just ordered the Canon EOS R.  I'm trying to decide if I should get the 15-35mm or will that not be much better than the 16-35mm I already have. Granted the 16-35mm is a f/4 and the 15-35mm is a f/2.8, so it's faster.  But is it worth the nearly $1300 increase in price?

No one can answer that question but you. What do you shoot with that lens? How do you shoot? Do you like bokeh and wish you had more, or do you prefer your images to be mostly in focus?

Figure out what you shoot, how you shoot, and what doesn't please you. That will help you answer the question.

Hook is correct, the f4 would be enough for me, you might have different needs.

Why so serious?

I see what you are saying.  I'm going to stay with the 16-35mm, see how I like it.  And I'll likely just rent the 15-35mm for a weekend and see if pushes my buttons.  Then make a decision.

Thank you both

Great choice. Stick with your lens for now and try shooting your same subjects with rented glass for a few days. Then you yourself can judge whether it is worth the 1300$ price hike.
