Canon Rebel SL1 External Mic Issue

2 months 3 weeks ago #677785 by Niberticus
I have a Canon Rebel SL1 camera. I also have a RODE Videomicro external microphone. When I record video with the mic plugged into the jack, and my sound recording set to manual, only a low hiss plays when I play the footage back. Any ideas?

You probably have the playback volume turned down.

I thought maybe that was the case, so I played the videos on a laptop from the SD card. Still only the hissing.

From a negative review of that mic.
" ....If you leave the camera on auto gain control, the level of hiss is totally unacceptable. If you turn the gain down manually you get good sound, yes, but again, it's no better than the camera's own mic."
