Which Canon EF mount lens for wildlife photography?

I'm going with EF because I have a EF adapter for my EOS R and I can of course use the lens on my 5D III.  But without having to spend $7000 on a 600mm lens, which lens would you go with that will cost under $3000 and would be good for shooting wildlife.  Again EF mount.

Thank you for the help.

Get one of the Tamron or Sigma 150-600 zooms, or comparable. They both make some good products.

Just watched a seminar yesterday where someone that does landscape photography for a living uses one of those. Much lighter to carry around, too.

A lot depends on what you are trying to photograph. I'm doing mostly bird photography with a full frame DSLR.  I bought a used 100-400 L (first version) with great results. I've gotten some really nice bird photos with that. I'm willing to walk a long way for a good shot, so something heavier would be a real challenge.  I often wish I had the extra length of a 600, but think I would be bothered by the weight.  From what I hear, the 100-400 L ii is a wonderful lens, so if budget permits I would look very carefully at that.

If you're photographing grizzlies or tigers in the wild, ignore everything I said above and go with an 800 (and forget the budget you started with).  A lot of the bird photographers I encounter are using a Canon 600 L as a compromise in terms of weight and budget.
