Cleaning the Rubber Grips on a Rebel SL1?

2 years 2 months ago #731305 by MMcQuilling
Hello,
My baby sister enrolled in a photography class and I'm fixing up a Rebel SL1 to give her. I know that a lot of people dislike the SL1's small size and limited features, but I think it will be perfect for a 12 year-old's first camera.

I was given the SL1 in a large box of camera stuff that someone just wanted to be rid of, and I don't know anything about its history. As far as I can tell without a lens (I have a 50mm f/1.8 in the mail) everything is working perfectly and it just needs a surface clean. As you can see from the photos, the textured rubber is really quite dirty and I'm not sure how to clean it. I've tried 99% isopropyl alcohol on a Q-Tip and on a toothbrush. I watched a youtube video about using the spray for a car dashboard, but I haven't tried that yet as I wasn't sure if it was actually cleaning the camera or just staining the dirt black for resale.

Please let me know if you have any tips or suggestions.

I would just use a toothbrush and water, moist only and whip dry with microfiber
