card reader recommendation please

I have a 17inch latest generation macbook pro, and a slightly older Mac Pro, I have used the latest Sandisk, Lexar, and Promaster (I was desperate) card readers for compact flash and none of them work with my computers, every now and then they will be gracious enough to let me unload my pictures but it’s getting ridiculous. Does anyone have any card reader recommendations?

Any chance you're using a bad cable? How do they work on other people's computers? And when you say they don't work ... what exactly does/doesn't happen? Does the same cable allow you to tether directly to the camera? Trouble shooting something like this is a careful game of eliminating variables.

They all seem to use different cables so I don’t think that that is the issue. Nothing happens. I plug it in throw in the card and nothing. I restart and nothing. Haven’t tried it on any other computer but it’s annoying. Would an express card reader work better?

I haven't used an express card reader. It could be worth trying though.

Well, I think I'll get one and see if that works. Thanks for your help.
