As title asks, can this Datacolor Spyder5ELITE be used to calibrate a LG 42" TV for photography use?

Since the introduction of the SMD technology, it
could only if the unit as the proper access softwa-
re already installed — like monitors do… but there
will still not resolve the relative pixel density issue.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Short answer: yes.

You can decide whether a TV display provides enough resolution (and I'm going to guess that your LG is a 4K television), so pixel density is a negotiable point.

The primary difference between a "monitor" and a "TV" is the response time and refresh rate. For gaming, that response of 1-2 ms matters. Not so much for image editing, right?

You'll want to turn off (on the TV) all of the enhancements for TV viewing. Another issue is chroma subsampling. You can google for this stuff, but this thread covered a lot of ground:

What you don't specify is whether you're trying to repurpose an existing device, decide whether to buy a new one, or evaluate a Spyder. If you already have the TV, get the Spyder (because using a colorimeter is a Good Thing no matter what) and see what happens?

You mind me asking how often should you calibrate your monitors?

My software suggests every three weeks. I don't nearly that often.
