What RAID would you recommend a professional use?

Morning guys,  if you were buying or going to recommend a RAID for professional use, which would you recommend?

I know you have LaCie, Glyth, Drobo, Synology and G-Technology

Looking for recommendations.  Thanks all.

I got myself a QNAP TS-453BT3 with 4x WD/NAS
that was highly recommended by a pro videogra
pher friend of mine.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Being a "pro" is irrelevant. Being a photographer is irrelevant.

The issue is, reliability and ease of use for your assets in your workflow. You can read up on any of the products you list and get reviews by folks that actually own them, and you'll find fans and dissenters for all of them.

Drobos are quite popular with the Mac folks, for some odd reason. But anything that sits on your network and presents a volume for use by your workstation is going to be fine.

What really matters is what RAID level you use. RAID 1 for fully mirrored, or RAID 6 for error checking. I have a linux box set up with a RAID 6 array across (currently) 5 4TB drives, and can add two more drives before running out of SATA connections. That should give me about 19TB of storage. For me, less expensive than a Synology/Qnap/Drobo because I am familiar with administering linux systems. SMB makes the volume accessible to Windows.

Whatever you get, think in terms of, I'm going to need more room. If you have lots of images, you might want a 6-disk box, or plan on using mirrored 8- or 10TB drives.

All that Gary said, for me I use a Synology DS918 and but came very close to buying a Drobo.  They all pretty close to the same in what they do.
