To switch or not to switch ?

Hi everyone I'm thinking of upgrading from my trusty Olympus e-510 and would appreciate some unbiased advice as to what to go for, at the moment my shortlist is as follows:
Olympus E-5 is the obvious choice as I love Olympus build quality and I obviously already have some lenses and flash etc...
Nikon D7000 or possibly D300s or maybe Canon 7D obviously it's going to involve more expense changing systems and part of me would love to stay true to Olympus but I have reservations about the poor low light performance and lack of dynamic range from the 4/3 system.
I do allsorts of photography so no real specialist needs and I know a couple of these are weatherproofed but that isn't an absolute requirement. Any opinions on which way I should go ? I would particularly like to hear from people who have experience of the E-5 or people who have used more than one of these cameras, many thanks, Mike

I'm a big fan of the Olympus line. I've had a number of them over the years. At one time I had three UZ560's. When I decided to move up to a DSLR I faced a similar situation as you. My research made me believe that Olympus gave me less room to grow in photography. I made the switch over to Canon but I still second guess that decision as Nikon is an equally good system.

In a way it is like converting over to the metric system of measurements. It should have been done decades ago but the excuse then was it would have been to costly to make the change. Today that same excuse applies but it is even more expensive to make the switch. Thinking down the road a couple of years helped me make my choice. I'm glad I did - but that was then. You have a bit more invested in your gear. That can be good in a way if you sell some of it off to finance the new system you choose. I still have a UZ560 as a backup BTW. :woohoo:

Thanks for the reply, I do like the Olympus system it's good solid and reliable but I can't help thinking that the big 2 have raced ahead technologically and there seems to be nothing new on the horizon from Olympus :( I've got a little Fuji s1000fd that I've had for a few years now and It's produced some great shots over the years and having had experience of that if Fuji were bigger players in the DSLR market I would probably be seriously looking at that option. I have a feeling my final choice is probably going to be the D7000 as it seems to offer the best combination of performance and price.

For my Canon I have an adapter that allows me to use my old Olympus manual focus OM mount lenses. This works, though fussing with the MF sure does slow things down. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any such APS-C camera adapter for the newer Oly 4/3 AF lenses. Of course there are adapters for the new Micro4/3 mount. However I would regard most of the M4/3 tribe as a step down from the Oly E-30 or even the E-620. Shame to have to set those lenses aside.

The Nikon D7000 is a new camera and I heard great things about it. I'm not sure about the others. You could also go to a store and test out the cameras.

I'll ad the Nikon afficionado opinion on to this one. I've shot Nikon over the years and find that my older lenses( from film days) work on my Digital bodies as well so there is a great used market in lenses which equals less expense when searching out good glass. I am certain that Canon has an equally good line but the changes they made to their lens mount makes older lenses much harder to use if my information is correct.
