Advice columns

I've just been reading an article linked from this site: Canon V's Nikon DSLR comparison: Which is best for you?

I just have to say, what a complete load of bollocks!

The drivel that passes for supposed information and advice in this piece of garbage is almost offensive, it's that misleading...

I feel sorry for anyone who genuinely relies on the absolute horseshit contained within it to form an opinion on what product to spend their hard earned money on.

Whomever wrote (and I use the word very loosely here) this, is either a complete moron, or was phoning it in BIG TIME!

Link isn't active so I don't know what site it's on. Many of these type things seem mostly about hits and clicks and apparently just want people to look at their crap. They don't seem to care how good it is, they get money from ads so just want you to look.

Check and see who wrote it - at the bottom of the page is usually where you can find what company it is (if it is even a business), who's doing the site, if they have any experience, etc. Even if the person does it's often a one man show so just one person's opinion. Often better to read a magazine article where the person has enough expertise and can write well enough to be paid by a company to do a published article.

I don't normally take any notice of anything I read on the internet, anyway.

Due to the nature of the interweb, any idiot can have their opinion (no matter how wrong) splashed across a web page.

Articles in magazines are usually much more trustworthy as, a magazine lives on it's appeal to it's readers (without repeat readers, it's worth to advertisers diminishes and it looses revenue, then, closes)...

I know a bit about this because I am, or, at least was, a writer, who contributed to automotive mags as a writer/photographer, and eventually parlayed this into an editors job.

When I became editor (of the mag I had been a long time contributor to), one of my first tasks was dismissing the completely incompetent 'star' contributor (he was an actor on a local soap who couldn't act, let alone write), who wrote a regular column and, was a complete arse!
