Occassional Product studio photography- best camera?

I take our own pictures of our furniture in a makeshift studio corner (using three stobes). This happens so infrequently (once a month) I must keep my costs low. I have been using an old Canon G8 for years, but last week a neighbor stopped by and took a picture with his iphone and it was better! The G8 has a multitude of artifacts as well as mold on the interior of the lens. I am wondering what the simplest but best picture quality camera would be if I upgraded?

The pictures end up at 1200px per side. I am looking for clarity and range in colors. Typically the furniture is from 3' wide (chairs) to 8' wide (tables). I don't need the interchangeable lenses and fancy bells and whhistles, just the best image quality and a strobe synch.

If I went the ebay route to keep costs down is there an older camera which meets these requirements?

I prefer a camera with interchangeable lenses, even when I need only one lens.  They simply handle differently from the tiny compacts.

Pros usually work with RAW images instead of unedited JPGs.  So this comes down more to their editing skills than the camera selection.

If I were stuck with JPGs only, then I would look for a Fujifilm X-E1, X-E2, or X-T10.  Their film simulations are a real JPG advantage.

For RAW images, just about any old DSLR will do here.  There are 4 different brands for these and some folks have fierce brand loyalty.  If a friend of yours is already using a DSLR, then sticking to his brand will make it easier to learn from him.

You could most likely pick up a decent used D7100 from www.keh.com for a reasonable price.  That would be plenty of camera for you.
