what camera should I buy?

Hello everyone! I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to get a camera to start my way into photography as a hobby. I want to lear a lot about it, but I've never had the chance to have a really good camera. The basic purposes is to take pictures about landscapes, things, friends.. pretty much everything!I'm interested into Nikon cameras. I've been told that the D3400 would do the job, but I would like to hear some advice from someone with more experience. I'm willing to spend around 400-500 dollars. I don't want to get an awesome, expensive camera in my hands without the knowledge needed to take advantage of all its features.

Thanks in advance!! :)

Well, I'm in the same boat as you!
I have two toddlers and I want to capture their moments of fun with some landscape and macro shots thrown in.

I'm doing some research and most recommended camera in that range are Canon EOS M100 & Sony Alpha 5100/6000. Sorry, no Nikons!!
But, I'm not a photographer and I recommend you to hear what the pros say.

PS: I wonder what made you a Nikon fan!

I have students using that camera and, though it doesn't have
all the features of my bodies, they have proven quite reliable
and flexible. :P

A good thing the question was not for me!

Light is free… capturing it is not!
