Canon or Nikon

I'm an amateur photographer and i have decided to move from my point & shoot towards a DSLR. I'm Confused about deciding between the Canon 500D or Nikon D3100. If you guys know any better SLR for me please feel to suggest.

the best camera to me is nikon d3100 and nikon d7000 or you can get nikond300 or you can get canon rebel t2i i heard all good stuff about these camera but do your homework on them too and when you pick a camera make sure to hold it and see if it fits in your hand

I'd choose 550D over the D3100 myself. I shoot Nikon personally, so you know I'm not bias.

Image quality wise & feature wise, there really isn't much difference . I'd suggest that you go to the camera store & handle different brands & see what feels best in your hands. Some models may feel either too small or too big, or just not comfortable...Don't get caught up in the "what's the best camera" debate...It's the person behind the camera that makes use of the camera they have to get the best shots & a good photographer can make good shots with even the bottom end model equiptment...
