Is there a easy way to make borders in Photoshop?

One more question for me today. How can I make a good looking border that goes around a photo in Photoshop?

Thank you in advance.

Do you want something basic? The easiest way for a basic border is by using Image>canvas size. You can make the border as wide as you want and in any color.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but onOne software offers 30 free borders and edge effects for use in PhotoShop if that's the kind of things you're after.

For just a simple outline around the image, use the stroke command.

what kind of border are you looking for? simple elegant one is to open your pic & duplicate the layer... change the image size to 125% of the original size & use a layer fill set to whatever color you want (I use white) then on the duplicated layer go to edit & click on stroke & make it an inside stroke to about 20-30 pixels..it will appear to be a simple lined border like a double matted image.

for a grunge effect add a layer in the middle of two existing layers & use a splattered brush to make grungy effect poking out from behind the line stroke

if you want to incorporate the color of the pic into the grunge.. duplicate the background later & use the filter fibers option then make be on the color burn option, merge that layer with the background layer.then use the gaussian blur filter & you will see that images start to run outside the bordered image. as you can see in the upper image. I added a few clicks of a spatter brush to equal out the grunge effect on all sides.

LOL.. I have been using photoshop for years. If you really like this grunge effect you can save it as a template so you don't have to remake it every time you want to use it. To do it you will have to convert the top layer photo into a smart object (layer-smart object-convert)... once the photo is turned into a smart object you can just go under layer-smart objects- replace contents & change the pic to which ever one you wish to use next. Just remember to do a save as so you don't lose your template.
