Need help with splitting a portrait in half in Photoshop

Just a quick question tonight. I'm working on a Halloween project for a friend, kind of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde theme. How can I cut a portrait in half completely, work on each side separately then combine them back together as one?

Appreciate the help

Google masking for composites in photoshop and you will have more tutorials than you can read. Anyone doing more than simple edits need to learn basic masking....;)

Why so serious?

The quickest way is to draw a rectangular selection box from the edge of the image to the center of the nose. Then you will have half the image (and face) selected. Copy that part (Ctrl-C) and then paste (ctrl-v) which will create a new layer with the half a face included.

Depending on what you are trying to do, that is all - you can apply filters and effects on each layer separately, but they will still be in alignment.

If you do adjustment layers, remember to right click and select "Clipping layer" which restricts their action to the layer immediately below them.
