How to protect your photos from people stealing them?

7 years 6 months ago #498481 by Todd Knight
I've been conservative about uploading photos on Facebook, 500px and here.  I'm always concerned about people stealing my photos.

Are you just uploading low resolution photos?  I know some upload images with watermarks.  However Photoshop can remove those.  However Photoshop can't take a low resolutions shot and make it a high resolution shot (not with out original).

See my thoughts?  So what are you doing about this?

What am I doing about it?
Low resolution, of course, and selective about which photos I post - and I don't worry too much. I never assumed that the world has been waiting for my photos, I don't think I'm THAT good (at least not compared to so many others here at PT.....):woohoo:

Yeah it's crummy we need to worry about these things.  Go low resolution and including watermark.  If they want it, make them work for it!

Yeah, don't post, post small files, watermark...or maybe don't get too cranked up about someone using them. I've had a couple taken I know about, one was reposted with a drawing of the photo (hummingbird) I was flattered and told the young lady to leave it up. The other was taken from a facebook post (I was told), and I have NEVER belonged at that site, so it was a stolen, stolen photo. It wasn't used commercially so I let it go. Don't get too upset.....

Why so serious?

Anything posted online can be lifted. That said, even low res images, as long as they are used online as opposed to printed, can be enlarged without much difficulty.

:agree:  the sad truth.  The best you can do is sign up for one of those softwares that scans the net for your work and hope it actually works.

Problem with this is that watermarks can be removed & images can still be lifted & used online.
