Running Photoshop on Surface Book overheats it?

7 years 5 months ago #501228 by ThatNikonGuy
Hey all, good morning.  I've had this Surface Book for a few months now and finally got around to downloading Photoshop on it over the weekend.  Well, all went good till I started to process images.  Then the computers fan didn't shut off and it took forever for the image to process.

At the end, the computer was super hot.

Any ideas what I can do to run this with out it overheating?

Your computer hasn't sufficient processing power. Photoshop is a hog. Maybe in the short run, elevate the unit to allow more air flow?

Also, download a free trial of elements and see if that is better?

Why so serious?

From what I have seen of those tablets, they are not all that impressive to me. I know I will get some grief over that. But it is a case of memory, PU, and CPU not having enough power to do it. Can you add say an SD card to use as a scratch disk? That may help some, and maybe run it from the SD as well. But you may need to get a more powerful unit to not have the problem.
Also wouldn't Lightroom be a better choice than PS for a tablet.

I've heard that running any sort of intense program can cause the Surface to overheat. You might want to make sure that your device isn't defective if it's giving you serious issue consistently.

But it's likely that, like effron says, you just don't have the cpu to do what you'd like. Allowing for air flow and ventilation never hurts.

How much RAM do you have in yours?  I have a 16GB, and I'm able to run Photoshop on it with no problems.  And it doesn't get hot as you have described.

I think 12gb ram is a minimum requirement for Photoshop.....
