How to remove acne with Photoshop?

7 years 3 months ago #512969 by Harper Coswell
I just photographed a model to build practice and I told her I would give her the photos.  She really likes the photos and has asked if I would remove a few bumps of acne on her face.

What is the most professional way of doing this with Photoshop?

There are a couple of ways I have done it. One is using the Liquify Filter, and using the shrink mode. You merely isolate the area you want to work with. Then you have the standard clone tool, and picking an area that is close to the surrounding skin tone, I also use the lasso tool to isolate. Then there is the healing tool, but I prefer the clone over it. I also work on these types of things at 200%, and get them where they blend in fairly good. Then when you drop it down to 100% you cannot even see the edit. With the clone tool you may need to add some noise while it is isolated to match up rest of the image. I find the cloning cause a smooth spot, so adding some noise gets rid of that.
Also I prefer the Liguify Filter/tool over the other two options, because you do not have to do much more with it later. Maybe some slight smoothing, but it will shrink the acne down to nothing. Just play with it, and read any online tutorials on using it. I think it is one of the most under rated tools by most people. You can get rid of so many flaws with it, such as flabby jowls, double chin, and you can even buff someone up with it. I started doing Photoshop for manipulation over adjustments. I miss the days of the many photochop threads.

I use the clone tool and blur for blemishes.  Works well for me.

Depends how much there is to deal with. Usually some combination of clone stamping and spot healing gets the job done, with some hue and saturation adjustments to reduce redness. To bring back natural skin tone, I often sample a clean patch of skin and paint over problem areas on the soft light setting.

And of course, as Sandy mentioned, makeup before the photo is taken is an extraordinary help.
