Can't edit photo in Lightroom

7 years 3 weeks ago #522179 by Neil Dulay
I can see the photo, open it up.  However on right it's greyed out.  Even to export or edit on Photoshop is greyed out.

I'm lost here.

Help!

:thx2:

Did you move the files to another location on your computer?   That would make things grey'd out like that.

Nikon D300 24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.8
105mm f2.8
2 SB800

Image has been moved or renamed outside of Lightroom. If moved or renamed using Lightroom, it will track it.

So this happened to me a couple months ago.  How do you get the photos back in LR?

There are a few ways. If they were just moved, use "find all missing photos" under the Library tab when in the Library module. I don't know if it works on renamed images or not. You can always select their current location and import them again.  If they were just moved you can always move them back to original location. There are a couple more ways but that should get you started.

This will create doubles on the computer correct?

Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 40D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 70-300mm f2.8; Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

No. Lightroom doesn't create files except on export, etc. Lightroom just catalogs and keeps track of what is where along with the tiny adjustment file to go along with each image if it has been adjusted.

:agree:  that's why you should keep the files in the same folder

You didn't inadvertently slide the "Read Only" lock on your SD card did you ? That is if the camera uses SD cards.

That is what my line of thinking is when I saw the title. Or set it as a protected image in camera. What I would do is look at the properties of the image on the computer, and see if the Read Only is checked, or if something shows up in the Advanced Mode in the image summary for Windoze. If you see something that makes it a protected image, try to modify it in the Exif. Also what do you upload the images from the camera program wise. You may need to open it with that program, and modify it so another program can play with it.
