Lightroom vs Photoshop for photographers

6 years 11 months ago #526666 by Jeffster
Anyone else using Lightroom more than Photoshop for your post processing?  As I'm working on some client photos this morning.  I've come to realize that I don't use Photoshop much these days.

Just more of a general observation.  Anyone else in the same boat?

LR for 90% of the work, and PS for 10% of the time

Over the years I have gone from PS to Corel Photopaint to Elements to Lightroom to ACDSee Pro.

ACDSee Pro?  Never heard of that one.  How much processing you can do with that one?  Photoshop equivalent?

ACDSee Pro lacks layers, so it compares best to Lightroom.

ACDSee Ultimate does have layers, and compares to LR merged with PS.

Both have been pretty important to me, but I've spent more time working in lightroom for sure. Not sure if that answers the question

Lightroom is used for the bulk of all my post processing.  Mainly because it's easy, the photos are stored there, and the processor has enough of what I need for most edits.

With that said, I would guess 5% of my work is done in Photoshop.

They're hard to compare because they both have such different functions. Here's an analogy that makes sense for me - Lightroom is to filing cabinet as Photoshop is to work table. LR has some editing capability, but it's function revolves more so in organization. PS has all of the tools available to really get creative with images and make in depth changes, but if you brought in every image it would quickly become crowded and take up a lot time.

Completely apple and orange comparison here.

I've often wondered when Lightroom was going to take over Photoshop.  If Adobe master plan was to phase out PS.  Haven't you noticed all the features they have crammed into LR in recent years?
