Deleting Photos in Lightroom

I'm no Lightroom expert here and oddly have not tried to delete photos from Lightroom before.  What I'm finding are the NEF files are still on my computers hard drive.

How can you completely delete photos from the computer in one go from Lightroom?

When you press the delete key (in the Library module, at least) or right-click and choose "Pemove Photo...", you should get a dialog asking if you want to remove the image from Lightroom, or delete it from disk. If you choose the former, the original file is left alone, and LR forgets about it. If the latter, the file is deleted, too.

There's an option in Preferences to reset all of the dialogs, I think, in case you're not seeing this one.

The above is correct, but I caution against that from personal experience. I've quite a few times deleted files from Bridge or LR and like the "cooling off" period provided by needing to empty my "recycle bin" for a disc delete. That has save me some headaches. YMMV, of course.

Why so serious?

Per the above, I'll make a suggestion for workflow:

Create a folder in LR called "Trash". Images you cull, pick them with 'x' and move them to the LRTrash folder. Leave them for a while. Every now and then, go in and delete the contents of that folder. If you have decided, after a while, that you made a mistake in getting rid of an image, it's still there (like the Recycle Bin in Windoze). If, after a suitable period, decide you're done with those files, go delete them.

A bit safer than out and out deleting. Of course, for images that you know aren't worth saving (exposure, focus, etc) you can get rid of those with little "buyer's remorse". Others might warrant some time to really be sure.
