Good side by side video that compares these two.

Easy, Lightroom has a catalog and Luminar doesn't.

There is no comparison, Lightroom is the best post processing tool on the market IMO.

1) Define "best".
2) Taking a typical definition, that's no longer a true statement. Capture One and On1 RAW both have their strong points.

Well got me, I thought Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom were IT.  And all these others are side shows fighting for a piece.

You can look at it that way. But a bit of research shows that Capture One, for example, will present RAW photos in a different way than LR. It has a different way of working. And the license is a one-time purchase. That last point alone is enough for many.

They're worth checking out. Adobe doesn't have this sown up by any means.

That said, I still don't have a problem paying $10/mo for access to both LR and Photoshop. A lot of people like to overlook that, but it's important to me.

Interesting, I'm Lightroom user as well.  Just downloaded Luminar and surprised, there is a lot of same functionality as Lightroom.

I mean the right tool bar is almost identical in function.  No catalog is a deal breaker for me.  So will stick with Lightroom.

Gary - you are the 3rd person in the last couple weeks that has spoken highly about Capture One that I have come across.  Now you focused on price vs others was functionality.  You mind me asking which are you using most of the time?

I use the LR/PS Adobe CC for Photographers. I started with LR 3. It made sense, and I bought into it right away. Went through two versions of PS before the CC subscription model came out, and LR 4/5, and I'm perfectly happy with my workflow. Is LR perfect? Oh, golly, no. But it gets the job done.

I mention the others because the are now reasonable alternatives, especially for folks that get bogged down by the subscription model ($10 per month.... that's lunch one day) as if all they get is LR. PS is powerful, and that makes the cost a bargain if you need it. If not, then consider the options.

If you do some googling you'll find lots of comments about function. I'm not in a position to change software, so I'll stick with what I have. Besides, the latest 5DayDeal included a Luminar license. So I'll try that out. But cataloging is critical, and I'm not going to switch to Bridge.
