Did Google change Nik before they handed that off to DXO?

I find Lightroom and Photoshop work perfectly for me.  Never really needed anything else.

There were no updates to Nik while Google owned it. Most likely they took some of the technology for SnapSeed (or some other application).

I use the LR settings that Gary mentioned.

I didn't know about the masking slider for quite a long time and it's extremely helpful. Hold the Alt key, then slide it to see what it's doing. On a similar note, make sure you're not over sharpening either. On my macro shots, I can get as high as 105 on the slider (Radius of .6) , but for my portrait lens, I can only get to about 70 (Radius of 1) before it starts breaking up.

Try to keep Luminance to a minimum. If you get heavy handed with it, it starts to smooth it over too much and it starts to look like a painting. In fact, two photos I actually cranked the Lum to 100 just for that affect.

Lightroom most of the time

Nearly all the time it's Lightroom I use, only because I'm in there most of the time for my image catalog.  Plus that little slider on the right makes this a quick edit.

No changes to Nik suite.

As far as me, Lightroom is your friend.

Noiseware, that's a new one to me. Is that a new company?

I had Noiseware installed on a older computer and you just reminded me that I never brought that one over!  :pinch:  . It's a decent app, works well.

Wasn't me :)
