Could Adobe be pricing itself out of the game?

So, fireplace chat about Adobe and its pricing model.   $119 per year for Lightroom and Photoshop.  $239 for single app/Photoshop or get everything for $599 per year.

In the last few years, we can see other companies feeding a peoples pricing concerns, products like Xposure X4, Luminar, Nik Software, and Gimp that are below $149 for one time cost.

Last month Adobe attempted to raise rates again before pulling the eject handle and claiming error.  I'm an Adobe fan, but some of these other programs are looking pretty good.

How do you feel about this?

I went other ways and left MC-CS6, some years back.
I think they shot themselves in the foot!

But it's only $9.99 per month?  For both Lightroom and Photoshop.  That isn't bad.

Either way, they will always have people who will pay what they charge.  They have brand name/awareness supporting them.

Honestly I'm OK with the price, I just wish Lightroom was faster.

If the product meets my needs at a price I'm willing to pay, then I feel fine. This is a qualitative issue, despite attempts by the competition to make it otherwise. Or by folks that claim the pricing model is inappropriate.

Value judgments can't be reduced to absolute metrics. Prove me wrong.
