Can you notice difference between 300dpi and greater?

With all the talk of higher MP cameras and spec wars coming around the corner, would you notice a difference in prints with your eye above 300dpi?

Your question is vague. If you want good answers, ask good questions.

Camera resolution and print resolution are only loosely coupled. And printer drivers do work to smooth things out. I can print at 480dpi on my Epson 3880 and see a difference vs. a printer setting of 300dpi. Same input data.

Then there's viewing distance.

Can't add much more without understanding the intent of the question.

The pixel count — prior to SR and in PP — has very little to do
with print pixel density — expressed in PPI — at publishing.

The greater pixel count of my D850, will permit both: enlarge
bigger or crop-in more, and still maintaining an acceptable re-
solution for publishing even at lesser size.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I print my own, and usually use the higher 600 dpi setting rather than the lower 300 setting because the quality and color usually seem better. What the printer is doing at 600 is squirting ink more slowly across the paper because it's printing twice as many dots of ink onto the paper.

It will depend too on the quality of the original image how good it will look printed. I usually shoot at the Raw setting if I'm shooting digitally (since I shoot film too) and don't often print the JPEG copy of an image. Sometimes there's more noticeable difference in the quality of the Raw and the JPEG and other times not so much.

G'day Crammer

The "300DPI" and "600DPI" primarily comes from the dot screens used over recent decades by the lithographic printing industry. Today with laser printing methods things have changed somewhat

If you go to your local print shop using Fuij automatic printers, you will see the tags on the printers saying 'printing at 1440 dots per inch for the highest quality prints - you can see the difference'. Thus, current software along with interpolation allows the print mechanism to achieve so much more than the dot screens of years ago

Hope this helps

The larger the print, the more you will notice finer details or the lack of.
