In the specific said software I wouldn't know since I use

Good morning.   Yes I know about that site.  I just find it as an unnecessary inconvenience to go over there.  Not sure why Apple tried to get all fancy with their format.  Was hoping there would be a way to do this in LR or PS

:thx2:

JPGs suck. Lossy compression sucks. Apple didn't get fancy, as a quick web search reveals that HEIF is a "standard" created elsewhere. It uses newer, different compression techniques to get smaller image files with better quality. Nothing wrong with that. Apple would prefer your experience to allow for more, better images on your device. And Apple is all about your experience. #againwiththeeyerolls

But it (HEIF) will suck just as much as JPGs. Because it's compression.

HEIC is a "container", not a format. Sorta like MPG, and AVI, and other file types. But that doesn't really matter.

You can set your device to write JPG files by choosing "Most Compatible" in your settings. Again, found with a quick search.

Or get an app and shoot RAW files on the device.

I hear you, it's a PITA.  But that Jpeg link is the best option if you send photos to others often.

My wife is a pretty good photographer but now just uses her iPhone 9. Apple has introduced a new format called HEIC which is supposed to be better and store smaller images. I have copied HEIC files from her phone in the past and converted them to jPG files with iMazing HEIC Converter. But, is there a better way? I find the iMazing HEIC Converter kind of Klutzy so I am wondering if there is a better piece of software. Also, JPG is a lossy format and it would be nice to convert to an intermediate format for viewing, selecting, and keeping intact all the information for later/further processing. I am on the Adobe plan but do not use Lightroom (hate it actually) but will newer versions of LR allow me to view the files and convert them? Has Adobe caught up with Apple?
