What happens to our photos after we pass?

Who retains ownership of them?

Currently, all copyright-eligible works created on or after January 1, 1978
are protected for 70 years after the death of their author. In modern co-
pyright law, for works made by individuals (not works made by corpora-
tions), works are protected for the author's entire life plus 70 years.

When an author dies, the ownership of the copyright changes. So owner-
ship in a copyright can be passed to an heir or to a third party via a will.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

As the copyright owner, you can have a licensing agreement of your image to another party. You can grant rights to use your image for a particular purpose for a particular amount of time. For better understanding, you need to study complete copyright law.

Just remember, you have to have the images copyrighted with the copyright office.
