Are there any online courses or books that will teach someone Photoshop?

Man, are there ever. Go to your local major book outlet, and you're likely to see an entire aisle on Photoshop tutorials and techniques. Photoshop is a complex program, I don't really have any specific recommendations other than start with a good basic book for fundamentals. Tools and Layers is a good starting point to learning Photoshop. Peruse your local bookstore and find one that's easy to follow.

My best advice is to do more time actually in photoshop than reading the tutorials, and do it slowly/thoroughly. If the books start throwing terminology at you that you're unfamiliar with (common occurence), take the time to learn what it is. Like anything hands-on, you'll learn best by simply doing it, and you get proficient with repetition.

I bought a Classroom book on PS 7 from Abe books (Used book website) for $3.95, It's almost 600 pages of step by step instructions. It came with a lessons DVD and shows you each tool and how it works. It is quite good, but PS is still a bugger to learn.

There are on-line courses by the hundreds. Some good, some bad and most are so-so. You could check with your local high school, or community college they have some cheap and hands on classes that will get you started on the right path. A little hands on in Photoshop goes a long way.

The best way I've found to learn Photoshop is a search engine. Just search "Photoshop tuturials." There are tons of sites that offer step by step instructions to do certain things for photos. I'd do the step by step to get exactly what they were showing, then I'd vary on what they were saying for different effects.

$3.95?? Is this the same as the Adobe Classroom in a book? Where are you finding this at such a low price?
