Hate to break this to you, buddy, but lightships are anchored in place to serve like lighthouses. You really need to get out more.

Nothing a minute of PP can't handle.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

The sky is washed out then Baydream after remonstrating with me has shown how much better it looks with a nice sky.
As we dont have such things in the uk John I had no idea what they did, our lighthouses are on the coast or small islands of the coast no need to be sarcastic my friend..

David, the internet isn't perfect for communicating emotion (other than an occasional emoticon), what we call that in the US is a "ribbing". It's a friendly slam that people on a friendly footing use with each other.

You wouldn't "rib" a stranger, as it might be taken wrong. Friends do it.

Sorry buddy. I was messing with you. In the States, we have a handful of "lightships" (now decommissioned) that were anchored over dangerous shoals where no island or rock outcropping was available. The Nantucket was one, as was the Chesapeake (now on exhibit in Baltimore Harbour).

And Bob was right, it was incredibly perilous duty for the Coast Guard crews. The USCG rescue motto is "We have to go out, but we don't have to come back". :patriot:

I thought the photo was pretty good, given the conditions. I don`t have any fancy software that I can change things with!!! I just point my film camera and shoot!!!!! It comes out the way it comes out!!!!! :rolleyes

I'm going on a tangent for a min....

It's never easy critiquing a stranger (people on forums present their own personas, not their reality). We don't know how personal the work is to them. You can sort of guess if it's a picture of their child (or grandchild) that it means something special, and a "slam" on the work would likely be taken to heart. But sometimes even a landscape (or a seascape) is "personal".

I don't think anyone here is against you David (though there are many against me). ;)

My own criticisms of others are meant to help. I want everyone to be great (and successful). We all seem to get along better that way. Plus, producing good photo work is good for our profession as a whole.

Matthew :)

Now back to your stranded boat picture....
