Anyone use Go Daddy?

Just wondering the best service to use for a website? Any suggestions?

I have used Go Daddy to host my sites over the last few years. Today there are literally hundreds of reputable web hosts so there is no one best.

More important is your understanding of how it all works.

What kind of web site is it you want? What do you want a web site to do for you?

Well I am looking for a place to buy a domain and host it. My site will be used to display my portfolio and client's photos. I'm not really looking for a site where clients can order directly off the site. Just so they can view the photos.

I use godaddy, but just for the domain name. My site is hosted by zenfolio.

I use GoDaddy only for domain registration. For photo galleries I use Zenfolio, for general purpose and E-mail, Arvixe.

Most hosts offer domain registration, but most are not the primary. As I have changed hosts more often than domain registration, I don't see combining the domain and hosting as any advantage.

I have had a good experience with bluehost.com. But there are so many options out there, I certainly wouldnt claim there is one "best".

I think godaddy's account management interface seems overly cluttered and confusing.

But that's just my opinion. YMMV.

I agree, strongly. Different hosts certainly do have different approaches to user support. Arvixe sends you a long E-mail, with just about everything you need to know to establish your account. But their FAQ and Knowledgebase is a joke. To dig further you are better off searching their forums. My little experience for direct support by Arvixe staff was very good though. Still, the lame Knowlegebase makes me reluctant to recommend them for novice users. Of course a lot of other hosts have the same problem.

How do you know godaddy's account management interface seems overly cluttered if you use bluehost?

Because I've used GoDaddy too. And a few others. And if you just want to register a domain on the cheap and point it someplace else, it's tough to beat GoDaddy, even though you have to navigate through their byzantine interface to change anything.

Boycott GoDaddy. They supported SOPA and PIPA. While theyve backtracked a bit... I still say you should boycott them. Go with just about anyone else :P

More information at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act - Overall the title sounds nice... but just about everyone on and off line has gotten riled up about it due to privacy, monitoring and censorship issues. Its really not popular.
