Stock photography: payment problems

7 years 10 months ago #485142 by MM1
Hi

Has anyone had any payment problems from stock photography sites - beyond the large cut the website takes? For example delays in payment (for international transfers) or high transfer costs (e.g. PayPal). Any suggestions on how you get around these?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do. You're at the mercy of the stock site and their payment platform.

The problem with stock photography sites is that there isn't any money to be made these days!  :(  That's to bad.  I'm guessing the process of getting paid over seas might not be worth it unless you have big $$ to collect.

I think the best way to get around those kind of payment problems is to stop using those websites.

Many are referred to as 'photo rights grab' sites because they want users to give them photos so they can license usage usually in a way that's unfavorable to the site users/photographers.

If the website is overseas I'm not sure what you can do to receive payments in a more timely manner. Read their Terms & Conditions and see what options you might have and make sure you know what you've agreed to do in signing up to use the site.

Don't use them is how you fix that. Delete all of your images from the site, and consider it a lesson learned.
The only ones making money off of stack photography sites are the sites owners.
